Our Story
There's nothing more
comforting than to hear the chimes of my grandfather clock as it
welcomes the new hour. It makes me feel at home...I've had my
clock for over 25 years and treasure it, intending to pass it down
to my son, starting a family heir-loom.
If you've ever been in
the market for a grandfather clock, there is a shop just on the
outskirts of Bellevue, in Pegram...a sort of family Heirloom itself,
The Harpeth Clock & Quilt Company. The minute you walk through
the doors you can hear the chiming of hundreds of assorted clocks
from Grandfather, Cuckoo and now the majestic Rhythm clocks, clocks
for every room imaginable. The telling of time never had it so
good. The quality of their clocks is seen in the remarkable
craft and workmanship, the rich cherry or oak, the solid brass...the
sounds of the angelic chimes, music to the ears. There are
wall clocks and mantle clocks, priced to fit every budget.
Besides the magnificent
collection of clocks; we carry an enormous assortment of trinkets;
"Margaret's Treasures." Margaret Murray, the owner, has
collected exquisite Baldwin and Virginia Metalcrafters Brass and 3
types of sparkling Crystal. Curios can be filled with
keepsakes like the "Growing up Birthday Girl" collection.
Every little girl would admire the beautiful porcelain figurines
depicting their uniqueness, a collectable for every birthday.
Then there are original Aladdin lamps, in electric or kerosene.
They come in every size and color with custom globes.
Margaret Murray, "Mrs.
Margaret" and her husband, W R Murray built and opened their store
in 1977. Mr. Murray, after a 40-year career at Cain Sloan's
Department store, decided to provide this wonderful shop for the
community. One can tell...time, attention and pride goes into
every selection offered. Mrs. Margaret has taken her love for
sewing and provides a wide selection of fabric and notions.
She has personally made aprons in assorted styles and bright colors
that go over your best clothes, keeping you neat while cooking and
ready to rush off to church or an evening out. She is an
accomplished quilt-maker, which can be seen in their lovely array of
beautiful quilts. Classes are often held in her shop.
She is looking for another teacher to teach the art of quilting; if
you want to share your time-honored talent, give her a call.
Successful businesses
often find dedicated employees. There are 3 men and
women who work together to provide you the best in customer care and
service. There is Mr. Charlie Spears, who works on Thursday, Friday and Saturday with Reba Edlin. Mr. Spears also specializes in custom stain-glass
pieces. Keith Rimner and Ray DeSilvis are master repair
technicians: Ray is in the shop and Keith travels within a
hundred mile radius doing clock repair and maintenance. Dorthy
Soloman and Betty Zupa head the Monday-Wednesday crew and Linda
Petty is a wonderful fill-in when someone has to be away.
Harpeth Clock & quilt
Company is open Monday-Saturday, 9-5. There's a big sale going
on...stop by and meet the crew and Mrs. Margaret! If you like
